How large or small of a murrina will the machine cut?

The unit is designed to cut cane murrine/murrini up to 7/8 inch (22 mm) and as small as 3/16 inch (5 mm).

What pressure setting should I use?

The unit is rated at a maximum input of 125 psi. The regulator should be set at the lowest psi capable of cutting your cane murrine. Most 1/2 inch (13 mm) murrine will cut at 30 psi.

Do I have to keep the plastic shields in place?

The shields are there for your protection. Please only operate your unit with all shielding in place.

When should I change blades?

Since the cutting blades are circular, you can turn the blades whenever you see them wearing (we have cut hundreds of feet of cane murrine and have seen minimal wear). Top blade uses a 2.5 mm hex wrench and bottom blade uses a 4 mm hex wrench. If you need to order new blades, please visit our contact page.

What maintenance does the unit need?

A non-caustic cleaner can be used to clean the aluminum surfaces. You can also oil the cane guide screw and shafts if needed.

Why are the murrine chipping or not cutting smoothly?

There are a few reasons this can happen:

  • Make sure the cane is properly annealed. Glass that is not annealed will not fracture cleanly.
  • Make sure blades are not damaged.
  • Make sure you are placing the cane in the center of the blades when cutting.
  • Make sure the air pressure is adjusted properly. Your air pressure may be too high or too low.

How long is the cutter warranty?

The unit, excluding the blades and plastic shields, is warranted for five years to the original purchaser. Download the complete warranty document.
